Antique mall opens in West Friendship

Just when local antique and collectible shoppers were mourning the late October
closing of Susan Hague's Porch Swing Consignments, comes a brand new
"antique mall" in West Friendship.

The Pink Cabbage, a consortium of six antique dealers and designers, has just
opened at 11707 Frederick Road. The spiffy new emporium is located at the
corner of Triadelphia Road and Route 144.

"A lot of us are displaced dealers from the old Oella Mill," laughed one vendor.

The Pink Cabbage is housed in a two-story former residence, which was built in
the 1800s. According to Kate McCall Eckert, a recent Saturday afternoon
shopper and a lifelong resident of the area, "This house was once a rest stop for
travelers along the National Road."

The house has been refurbished with fresh paint and each room has a distinctive
flair. Local dealer Sherry Russell purveys a "taste of vintage design" with her
jewelry from the Sassafras collection.

Fellow browsers on The Pink Cabbage's opening day included Sandy Wigler,
who was entertaining her out of town family members from Tennessee with an
antiquing trek.

The Pink Cabbage will be open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
